Busy

06 24th, 2008

I’m sure everyone has noticed the cobwebs around my blog. It’s been a pretty busy and crazy week(s) for me. I’m planning something huge that there is a possibility that my little ole blog might have to close down for something bigger, but that’s not gonna happen anytime soon. I still have to finish all my Female Socom Gamers Countdown and Interviews :)

But once that is all hashed out and launched. I will surely announce it here. I’m excited and exhausted at the same time.

The new SOCOM interview will be featured this Sunday. Sorry for the delay folks!

Wii would like to Rock out too

Author: Valentine
06 17th, 2008

For those of you who have been missing out on all this Rockband craze because all you have is your tiny little game machine… The Wii. Don’t wowii… June 22nd you’ll be rockin’ out to your very own Rockband.

The only thing that sucks is that you can’t buy songs online… and I believe you’ll have to purchase a separate CD to install to your game for the extra songs. Man, they’re not giving you a chance!

06 16th, 2008

Welcome to the 3rd installment to our countdown to SOCOM. I apologize for the delay in posting this but Metal Gear was kicking my ass that I haven’t had time to post anything. But to kick start the 3rd week of our interview, I present to you AZNgirl of [GoD]

thes.jpg
AZNgirl - The cute girl on the right side of the photo.

1.) What’s the story behind your gamertag, AZNgirl?

Ugh, it’s so corny but it was the best I could come up with at the time. I figured, “hey I’m Asian…and a girl”.

2.) What do you do when you’re not gaming?

Read voraciously, work, spend time with the significant other, and play with my lovely Yorkie puppy, Teddy

3.) When did you start playing SOCOM and how did it start?

The bf at the time had heard of the new “online” shooting game a week or two before Socom I debuted, he picked a copy up the first week it came out and I was hooked a couple of days later.

4.) [GoD] has been around for quite a while, tell me how it is to be a part of such a great clan?

Ahh, the nostalgia is hitting me. GoD was a riot. We had barrels of fun and I am still in contact with one of the original members. I miss those guys.

5.) What other clans have you been in besides [GoD]? I know we’ve all been a part of a few clans not just one, I for one am guilty of that ?

Other than GoD, I was with WP when GoD kind of dissipated (AWESOME bunch of guys), then GoD came back and renamed itself as Co (Covert Ops) and then I joined F&B (Frank and Beans) in Feb of 2005 and am still a proud member.

6.) How many hours a day or week do you spend playing SOCOM?

Not much as of late. I did log a healthy number of hours on each installation of Socom though. I would play religiously, every single night of the work week.

7.) We all face our own challenges on being a female gamer in SOCOM, what was the worst experience you’ve had in the game?

Well, I’m sure you’ve been on the receiving end of this as well, if I played a great round or game, I was automatically called horrific names simply because I am a female. The constant sexual discrimination notwithstanding, I also endured quite a bit of harassment because I am Asian (then again, I brought this all on myself because of my screen name).

8.) We’ve played a few times back in SOCOM I and I thought you we’re one of best female players I’ve seen. Tell me your experience playing with or against your fellow girl gamers?

I’ve come across a small handful of really skilled female Socomers. Yourself included, I must say Enemy Gates and Sista were awesome players. Funny thing is, I assumed that since we women were the constant and frequent target for harassment, we’d band together on the game but I ran into my fair share of petty and catty women. Sad. But the small group of females that I played with regularly became good friends.

9.) What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever heard people say about you on SOCOM?
Good question…that I was probably 350lbs, had massive armpit hair, and couldn’t buy a date because I played Socom!

9.) Are you going to play SOCOM Confrontation when it comes out?

ABSOLUTELY.

10.) If you do a comeback for SOCOM Confrontation, What features would you like to see on the new game?

I want the developers to be able to recreate the Socom that we all grew to love. I don’t need new features other than graphics. Bring back the wonderful Socom feeling!

11.) I know a few females who had their very own “SOCOM Stalker” did you have your own stalker back then?

OH YEAH. In the beginning, it would be one of two types: 1) the perverted stalkers or 2) the bitter and misogynistic men

12.) I haven’t seen you since SOCOM I and I know most old school gamers stopped playing after SOCOM III came out. What have you been up to this whole time?

I’ve been busy with moving and setting myself up in a new state.

13.) Back then… did you have an archenemy in SOCOM?

Hmm, yes I did but I don’t know if I can name them all.

14.) I always say, it takes a strong female to survive in this male dominated game such as SOCOM, any advice you’d like to say to future girl gamers out there?

Do not let negative attention and behavior deter you from enjoying what you love about your gaming. Find the decent people (and they definitely exist) and surround yourself with friends in the game. Socom has done for me what no other game has, it allowed me to meet some people that I otherwise would never have encountered and they are now the same people I consider to be some of my closest friends.

There you have it folks! Another old school gamer from back in SOCOM 1 days. I played with her a few times back then and it was really nice to see how she’s been all these years and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing her again in the next SOCOM battlefield. Again, thank you so much AZNgirl!

06 13th, 2008

I’ve played Metal Gear Solid 4 very briefly yesterday, but was awed by the intense graphics and that 5 minutes of games play I’ve spent playing it. I managed to get a few screen shots of the first 5 minutes of it. This was taken using my camera phone, so some of them will look a little hazy but the intensity of the graphics will surely make up for it.

And here’s a short video of the intro:

I’ll be playing more hopefully tonight or this weekend and provide more detailed updates soon. My husband on the other hand, did manage to play longer and has provided some in-game details and and his own review of it:

“I thought the ipod in the game was a funny bonus. You can listen to the MG podcast while you play. I thought the game is a lot more “run and gun” friendly than the others. I didn’t have the learning curve problem with the controls as I normally do. I’m not too wild about the constant “magically respawning” enemies, but the graphics are top notch. I can only hope that Socom will look as good.”

Some of my clan mates have also posted their own little review of the game and can be found on our gaming community’s website at: www.clanteq.com

Metal Gear’s History

I’ve played Metal Gear since it was still on PS1 and have been a fan since. Although I’ve never really finished Snake Eater, which I really need to finish.

I’m sure watching this video would probably bring back some Metal Gear memories and make you feel a wee bit old(er)

If you can’t live one day without checking out what’s latest in the Playstation Store, and you shouldn’t have missed seeing the game video trailer for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of Patriots that featured the debut of the boss characters.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of Patriots Trailer

“Featuring the debut of the boss characters for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots — Laughing Octopus, Raging Raven, Crying Wolf, and Screaming Mantis — the women that make up the Beauty and the Beast Corp.

Each member of the all female BB Corp is empowered with special, unique abilities, and each woman has individual back stories outlining how they became such monsters monstorities.

All four of the girls were born out of innocence, but were transformed by the horrors of war into beasts, both mentally and physically. They are perfect representations of the “Beauty and the Beasts” theme which runs throughout Metal Gear Solid 4.”

THE BOSS

raging_raven.jpg

Raging Raven: her wings look like the same technology as those of the unmanned biomechanic bomber creatures called Sliders. Which she may be able to control.

screaming_mantis.jpg

Screaming Mantis: She appears to be a puppeteer she has two martinet dolls one of them is Psycho Mantis and the other is the Sorrow. I’m sure she is controlling these two characters beyond the grave and has access to their powers. She look like she’s tactical gear like Snake and PMCs.

laughing_octopus.jpg

Laughing Octopus: She has tentacles are similar to the ones that Solidus’s had. She also has Octocam technology in her suit and seems to be juggling with what looks to be bombs of some kind.

crying_wolf.jpg

Crying Wolf: She has a gun on her back that look kind of like Fortunes Railgun.

AND THE WOMEN BEHIND THESE CREATURES

“This is just like the story of Beauty and the Beast you have the chance to save them of their monstrous spell which let you reveal the beauty from the beast. They have took 3D data of their faces and modeled the actresses for this purpose.”

Welcome to week 2 to our countdown to SOCOM Confrontation. If you missed last week’s female SOCOM gamer, just go here to catch up. Every week I will highlight one female gamer and share to you their views and some interesting stories about their SOCOM experience.

Everyone… I bring to you one of SOCOM’s original girl gamer…Ms.CG from one of the best clan in SOCOM history

| G H O S T |

kristen-003.JPG

1.) What’s the story behind your gamertag, Ms.CG?

When I first started playing Socom I used to play on my husbands name and all of the people we made friends with always called me Ms.CG. So, when I made my own name, that’s the one I made and it just stuck with me. We have been married since and I sometimes go with Mrs.CG also.

2.) What do you do when you’re not gaming?

I work and I enjoy doing the normal things of a house wife and spending time with my family.

3.) When did you start playing SOCOM and how did it start?

I started playing SOCOM when my husband bought the game the first day it came out.

4.) How many hours a day or week do you spend playing SOCOM?

I have not played SOCOM in quite some time because I feel that it is ruined by cheaters and I do not enjoy the game anymore, but I am anxiously waiting for SOCOM Confrontation hoping that it will be like SOCOM I and II. When I was playing SOCOM in its prime times I played maybe 30 hours a week.

5.) We all face our own challenges on being a female gamer in SOCOM, what?was the worst experience you’ve had in the game?

The worst part of being a female gamer is the second you open your mouth people talk trash on you and don’t even give you a chance. If they did, they might find out that you’re just as fun to play with as the men are.

6.) I haven’t seen you since back in SOCOM 2, what have you been up to?

I have been working and spending a lot of time house hunting with my husband. I have played a few games here and there, but nothing keeps my attention like the old SOCOM days. The games that I have played since SOCOM II are Everquest, Final Fantasy XI, Resistance, Rainbow Six, Call of Duty, and GTA4.

7.) What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever heard people say about you on?SOCOM?

I always used to find it funny when people said that I was one of the best girl gamers because I never thought I was very good.

8.) [G] or |G H O S T| is considered one of the greatest clans in SOCOM history. How do you feel about being a part of this?

I have always enjoyed being part of this clan, and honestly, I have been with these guys for so long, its like another clan does not exist. I am always excited to play with everyone from the old clan. We always had so much fun and its always more fun to win than lose.

9.) Are you going to play SOCOM Confrontation when it comes out?Yes

10.) If you do a comeback for SOCOM Confrontation, What features would you?like to see on the new game?

I would like the guns to be more balanced on each side. No cheating. No glitches. Maps that are set up for run n’ gun, because that’s what I like to do. More female characters to choose from. Grenades on one quickset instead of 2 different ones so I don’t keep dying while changing from one set to the other. I really hope they go back to SOCOM I and II style because they were the best of the series.

11.) If they made a movie about your life, who should play you?

Nicole Kidman

12.) If you could trade places with anyone for one day, who would it be?

My 6 year old cousin because I would love to have the experience of a child again with not a care in the world.

13.) Last book you read?

I am not into reading books that much so, the last books I read was when I was still in college and reading nursing books for school almost 2 years ago.

14.) What would you like to be doing in ten years?

I would like to be spending time with my husband and raising children.

15.) I always say, it takes a strong female to survive in this male dominated game such as SOCOM, any advice you’d like to say to future girl gamers out there?

Don’t pay any attention to those guys out there that are always talking trash on you, because most of the time they are just intimidated by you. Do whatever you got to do to kill the trash talkers because it really chaps their ass when a girl kills them. I always loved doing that.

There you have it readers! Another great female gamer to grace the pages of ShinyBento blog. Thank you so much Ms.CG for participating. Tune in next week for SOCOM’s Female Gamers - week 3!
